SRI LANKA

Education, Nutrition and Child Protection Support in Sri Lanka

Moratuwa-based Partner, SERVE, works across south and central Sri Lanka with vulnerable poor children and their families.

SERVE seeks to relieve the entrenched and perpetuating nature of the educational and nutritional deprivation-based poverty of children, parents and families in the most marginalised of households. They do this by supporting children to access and retain education, so they start and finish their schooling and by helping families access regular nutrition – a necessity for the educational attainment of their children – to enhance health now and in the future.

SERVE’s programme is a multi-stranded intervention of
1) education support and nutrition for pre-school and school-age children, and
2) child protection and rights awareness for parents and adolescents.

This strategy helps children directly and brings economic relief to their parents – especially those who are single parents, and daily-wage labourers, who find the financial challenges of children’s education difficult to bear.
