Education and Child Rights Support in Bihar
ICT Partner, SARTHI, is based in Patna in the Indian State of Bihar. SARTHI works with acutely vulnerable children in the districts around Patna, helping them access and sustain education. SARTHI also works with parents and communities to embrace strategies to protect children’s rights and to prevent the abuses and violations that serve to obstruct children’s development.
SARTHI runs education centres, with ICT support, in Maner Block in Patna District. SARTHI staff ensure children are enrolled in school and support them after school with homework and activities – support which their parents find hard to give since many have not been to school themselves. Children also benefit from excursions and trips – for fun and for learning – and take part in cultural and social events such as marking International Children’s Day.
SARTHI also enters schools and works with teachers and principals, helping integrate children’s rights into lessons and addressing classes with information on the legislation that protects children from harm.
